Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue return to Toronto

To Make a Long Story Short:
Thursday, January 16 – Phoenix Concert Theatre

Toronto – A common New Orleans expression, say that to say this means “to make a long story short”; it is also the title of Trombone Shorty’s latest release.

Performing music from their new album, Say That To Say This, Toronto Downtown Jazz Society is pleased to announce the return of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue on Thursday, January 16 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Tickets: Rotate This, Soundscapes and all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 1.855.985.5000 .

Produced by Raphael Saadiq, Shorty’s new album has spent the last six weeks topping the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album charts. Continuing to push the stylistic envelope of his genre blending sound with this latest release, Shorty incorporates grooving R&B-funk instrumentals  while maintaining his signature supafunkrock sound. Moreover, the record also features the reunion of the legendary Meters, 36 years later, as they revisit their 1977 classic “Be My Lady,” with Shorty singing lead and playing horns.

One of the hottest stars to come out of New Orleans in a generation, Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews expands on the musical heritage of New Orleans with the boldness of a true original. Hailing from the Tremé neighbourhood in New Orleans’ 6th Ward, home to Congo Square and the birthplace of Louis Armstrong, Tremé has been called “the most musical neighbourhood in America’s most musical city.” It has also served as the cultural backdrop of Trombone Shorty’s sound. His list of credentials reads like a list of who’s who in music today – he’s toured with Lenny Kravitz, and collaborated with everyone from U2 and Green Day to Buckwheat Zydeco and Branford Marsalis.
