Harbourfront Centre brings a whole new fun-filled experience to Redpath Waterfront Festival in Toronto

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Family-friendly programming to complement the Tall Ships experience

TORONTO, ON (June 12, 2013) –– Harbourfront Centre joins in the fun at the Redpath Waterfront Festival Toronto.

From June 21-23, Harbourfront Centre presents family-friendly programming that complements the larger Redpath Waterfront Festival that runs from June 20-23.

For three days, families have the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment and participate in activities at the heart of Toronto’s waterfront including nautical-themed demonstrations, music performances from the Métis Fiddler Quartet, Canadian step dancing workshops led by Bold Steps Dance, traditional Iroquois songs and dances from Gadaihongwas, children’s craft activities and more.

In addition to a full weekend of programming, on June 21 Harbourfront Centre is set to open Canada’s largest outdoor photographic exhibition, Nine Rivers City: Toronto’s Extraordinary Waterways in partnership with Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) and generously supported by Menkes. The breathtaking large-scale photographic exhibition is an exploration of Toronto’s nine rivers featuring 72 images from six of Canada’s most exciting artists. It will be housed in the new Exhibition Common, one of the three new spaces on Harbourfront Centre’s 10-acre site.

Also in the Exhibition Common, learn about the many different water-based activities year round at the heart of Toronto’s waterfront. Join us Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m., for demonstrations and displays by Harbourfront Sailing and Powerboating Centre, Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak, Toronto Brigantine, Youth Boat Works, Toronto Police Marine Unit, Mariposa Cruises, Toronto Port Authority and Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA). Complete an accredited course and receive your Pleasure Craft Operator Card issued by the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) at the Harbourfront Sailing and Powerboating Centre tent.

On June 23, Harbourfront Centre also officially unveils its newest public space, Ontario Square. With the Ontario Boreal Forest as its inspiration, Ontario Square is an open public space funded by the Government of Ontario. Events throughout the weekend will take place on both Redpath stage and in Ontario Square.

For additional information and complete event listings, the public may visit harbourfrontcentre.com or towaterfrontfest.com. They can also call the Information Hotline at 416-973-4000.
